About me

My first trip to West Texas was in 2015, and from the minute I turned off I-10 headed towards Alpine on my way to the Davis Mountains, I was in love and knew my life was changing directions. It eventually led to moving from Austin, where I had lived for 30 years, to Alpine in early 2018-- not knowing anyone, but knowing I needed to be out in this region. With a change of inspiration came a change in business. My other business, Bolsa Bonita, gave me the experience to apply to this one, a place where I can explore other forms of creative expression influenced heavily by the Big Bend region.

My background includes fine art, photography, and a grandmother who taught me to sew when I was very young. I started college in fine art, but eventually switched over to photography and graduated from UT Austin with a degree in photojournalism. I still shoot film and process and print my photos in a traditional wet darkroom. Since it takes me forever to do website work, my photography (or at least some of it) can be seen on my portfolio site: lizpotterphotography.com

I make everything myself in my big, messy studio. When I'm not in there, I'm camping, hiking, or road tripping!
